TOOLS

Use tools only for the purpose for which


they are intended.
Only employees qualified for the use
of that particular power tool may use
them.
The employee must be familiar with the
manufacturers instructions for care,
use, and safety before operating any
power tool.

CARE OF TOOLS
Take care of all tools and supplies
as they represent a large investment.
Each work unit shall be equipped
with sufficient tools for planned and
routine tasks;
Separate defective tools from serviceable
tools, equipment, and material
and tag them Defective-Do Not Use.

At the start of each work shift, before


using and as often as necessary
while using, visually inspect tools.
Tools with striking surface cracked or
mushroomed are defective

GENERAL RULES FOR OPERATION OF POWER TOOLS

Wear safety shoes, safety


glasses,hearing protection,
respirators, face shields, shin
protectors, and other required
protective equipment.
Keep hands off throttle lever until
ready to start operation
Maintain a steady balance at all
times.
Never put your face close to the tool.

Never rest the tool on your foot.


Never point the tool at anyone.
Never start a tool when it is lying on the
ground, except when manufacturers
instructions indicate that is the proper
method.
Never use the body to control an active
tool.
Never indulge in horseplay.

Never point an air hose at anyone.


Tighten all hose connection. Note, a loose
hose may not only leak, but also may
disengage from the tool, whip around, and
injure the operator.
Check and tighten all bolts, screws, and
other connections before using a machine
because ordinary vibration shakes parts
loose and can cause breakage and other
damage.

Do not operate the power tool without


a proper tool in the chuck or front head.
Hold the tool firmly against the work,
and always keep both hands on the
handle while operating.
Maintain and use handles when
provided.
Do not straddle a tool with one leg over
the handle.

Only qualified personnel may make


adjustments to carburetors on abrasive
type rail saws.
Do not try to speed up drilling with rail
drills; they have automatic feed.
Do not override governors on machines
so equipped.
Maintain any log books provided with
machines
