The teacher understands Standard 5 which requires connecting differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking and collaborative problem solving on real issues. The teacher's lesson plan on fractions for third graders meets this standard by using literature, manipulatives, and real-life examples to conceptually teach fractions as parts of a whole in a way that engages creative and collaborative problem solving.

The teacher understands how to connect and use differing perspectives to
engage learners in critical/creative thinking and collaborative problem solving related to authentic local and global issues.
I have met Standard 5 Application of Content as indicated by the lesson plan
on teaching fractions. This lesson plan is designed to teach third graders how to conceptually learn about fractions as parts of a whole. This lesson plan is designed to engage learners to learn about fractions through multiple ways of learning. Students will learn about fractions as part of a whole through children literature, the use of manipulatives and by using real life examples which will engage learners in creative thinking and collaborative problem solving. I have understood how to connect these concepts in a way that will be useful for different learning styles and get students thinking and relating to the problem at hand.
