SGEF Mission Statement:

To establish or improve the use of
renewable energy technologies or
energy efficiencies that directly
reduce the university's greenhouse
gas emissions, waste, and/or costs
based on the proposals of students,
faculty, and staff at the University of
South Florida St. Petersburg.

TURNING GOLD TO GREEN AT USF

Enerfusion Solar Docks

This project plans to add Solar Power Docks out
of Residence Hall One and the library in order to
provide an environmentally friendly source of
sustainable energy at these locations. Once
available, these power docks will allow those
locations to be a more attractive place for
studying and socializing.

Keeping Our Environment Fit

This project addresses some issues dealing
with the gym that will save a considerable
amount of energy. First, all of the lightbulbs
will be replaced with LED bulbs, which use a
fraction of the watts of the current bulbs. In
addition, all of the cardio equipment will be
replaced with equipment that is made of
recycled material and uses much less
energy.

LED Lighting
Another proposal for SGEF is to put LED lighting on the soccer fields
of the St. Petersburg campus of USF. The purpose of this is to provide
efficient lighting for the renovated soccer field. LED lighting is wanted
because it is 75% more energy efficient and it will save about
$1,992.77 a year more than non-LED lighting.

Recycling Customer
Everyday tons and tons of used items are thrown away into the
trash, but most of the items could be reused. Recycling is the most
economical and efficient way for us to save the environment and
prevent overcrowding from trash heaps. Most items we use daily
besides organic material can be reused to create other items and
then be recycled again. The amount of effort it takes to recycle has
come down to just putting the reusable materials in a blue bin, and
the same people who collect trash will pick it up. SGEF is in its 2nd
Phase of adding four more outdoor recycle stations to the USFSP
Campus. Currently they are everywhere around campus, these bins
allow you to separate trash, recycling, and even other materials.
The USFSP SGEF estimated that 358.25 bags of recyclables were
collected last year. The bins the school plans to use are 97%
recycled, and will save up to $10,836.00 in additional trash pickups.
