LESSON PLAN: VERB CONJUGATIONS (PRESENT TENSE)


Description: In this lesson the students will learn about verb endings, and the
proper way to conjugate verbs with different endings in the present tense.
Teacher: Rebekah Lockaby
Subject: Spanish I
Grade: 9-12
Duration: Varies
Indiana Academic Standards:
Encourage the use of the language and cultural understanding for selfdirected purposes.
Practice appropriate pronunciation and intonation.
Describe practices, products, and perspectives of Spanish-speaking culture.
Report on basic family and social practices of the target culture, and describe
contributions.
Understanding Spanish language and culture outside of the classroom.
Objectives:

Students will be able to properly conjugate verbs in the present with no


errors.
Students will be able to recognize different verb endings for different verb
endings, and use the correct format with no errors.
Students will focus on pronunciation and form new sentences using correct
grammar with no errors.
They will have a complete understanding of the Spanish-speaking culture and
understand the purpose of learning cultural differences.

Prior Knowledge: None


Materials:

Dry-erase board
Student handout with verb endings and examples
Additional student handout for independent practice

Procedure:

Opening Set/Anticipatory Set: Make any necessary changes to the


classroom setting. Provide a brief explanation of the lesson.
Instructional Sequence: Write all correct verb endings on the board using
as many examples as possible.
Independent Practice: Give students an additional handout to be
completed, and then discussed as a group.
Closure: Provide a brief recap of most important points. Assign homeworkworkbook pages that align with state standards.

Adaptations:

Recognize different cultural backgrounds.


Recognize students specific learning styles to incorporate them into the
lesson.

Assessment of Students:

Do students understand basic verb conjugations?


Can the students complete the conjugations independently with minimal
effort?
Are they using correct pronunciation?
Do they understand the purpose of learning cultural differences?
