Windsor Knot: 1) The Wide End "W" Should Extend About 12
The Windsor Knot is a thick, wide and triangular tie knot that projects confidence. It
would therefore be your knot of choice for presentations, job interviews, courtroom
appearances etc. It is best suited for spread collar shirts and it's actually quite easy
to do.
While just about everyone can use this tie knot to tie his tie, it looks especially well
on men with longer necks as its wide form shortens the perceived height of the neck
a little bit.
To tie the Windsor Knot, select a tie of your choice and stand in front of a mirror.
Then simply follow the steps below:
Congratulations, you did it! You see, it is not rocket science after all. Simply keep
practicing the Windsor Knot a few more times until you can tie it within less than 30
seconds.
The Half Windsor Knot, a modest version of the Windsor Knot, is a symmetrical and
triangular tie knot that you can use with any dress shirt. It works best with
somewhat wider ties made from light to medium fabrics.
To tie the Half Windsor Knot, select a tie of your choice and stand in front of a mirror.
Then simply follow the steps below:
And there you are! Simply keep working on it and be sure to practice a few times
until you are really good at it.
The Four in Hand Knot makes for a narrow, more discreet and slightly asymmetrical
tie knot. It is best suited for a standard button-down dress shirt and works best with
wide ties made from heavy fabrics.
While this tie knot can be worn by anyone, it looks especially well on men with
shorter necks as the knot's rather narrow and elongated form stretches the
perceived height of the neck a tiny bit.
To tie the Four in Hand Knot, select a tie of your choice and stand in front of a mirror.
Then simply follow the steps below:
That's it! That is all there is to the Four in Hand Knot. You will quickly learn to tie this
knot in less and less time every time you practice it. Just keep going, my friend!
Pratt Knot
The Pratt Knot - also known as the Shelby Knot - is tidy and fairly wide, yet not as
wide as the Windsor Knot. It is well suited for any dress shirt and somewhat wider
ties made from light to medium fabrics.
To tie the Pratt Knot, select a tie of your choice and stand in front of a mirror. Then
simply follow the steps below:
1) Start with the tie inside out, The wide end "W"
under the narrow end "N".
Awesome, you did it! Always remember that with any tie knot - such as the Pratt
Knot - a little practice is all it takes to become a real expert at tying your tie in no
time.
uninstall it. Some fonts should stay put, such as Windows system fonts,
which have the extension .fon instead of .ttf. The icon for a system font
has a red A rather than a gray-blue TT. System fonts are usually
hidden files, but theyre visible in the Fonts folder in Explorer. They
disappear when you move them elsewhere, though. Some applications
require specific fonts, such as Arial, Verdana or Times New Roman, so
youd better keep them around. Any other ones you dont use can be
moved to another folder. More info about this can be found at:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;234749
Step 6 A few basic pointers for optimising your system. (1) From the
desktop right click on the my computer icon and select properties.
Select file system and under the hard disc tab, where it says for
typical role of this computer select network server in the drop down
menu as this speeds up transfers. (2) Under floppy disc make sure the
little box is not ticked as this increases boot up time slightly when it's
checked. (3) On Internet Explorer, while surfing the net, images are
stored on the hard drive in a section called the cache. This is useful if
you are using a slow dial-up connection as it means the most used
images dont have to be continually downloaded so surfing speeds are
increased.
If the cache size is too great then Explorer has to check through all the
images before it downloads them and this can slow up browsing. The
optimum size is a bit, hit or miss, but with ADSL or cable the cache can
be set much smaller as the images download quickly. Also when the
cache is too large, the files get fragmented (this is covered later) and
the hard disc thrashes around trying to piece it all together thus
slowing everything down. Its a matter of trial and error but I wouldnt
recommend much more than 50MB for a slow connection and about
10MB for ADSL. Adjustment is made by clicking on Internet explorer
tools and Internet options then under temporary Internet files
the settings button and use the slider to adjust the amount. (4)A great
program for optimising various parts of your computer is one called
Speed up my PC With this you can set it automatically to take care of
memory usage and can prevent system crashes at awkward times. Its
not free this one but its worth taking a look. You can read more about
it here:- http://www.pcsandthings.com/speed_up_my_pc.htm
Step 7 De-fragment your hard drive. Sounds a bit severe but its
something that should be done fairly regularly. Your computer works
efficiently when the data it takes from the hard drive to process in
memory is all in one place and doesnt take very long to fetch. After
using your computer for a while, related files get broken up into
fragments and are scattered all over the disc. This happens in normal
use but it can significantly increase the time it takes to collect it all up.
A bit like you going to another room to fetch your files from a filing
cabinet and if they were all together it would be easy to collect them. If
on the other hand they were in different cabinets all dotted around the
room then you get the idea. The thing to do is run the defragmenter
that comes with Windows. Double click My Computer and then Right
click the icon for drive C: and then click properties. Select defragment
and follow the instructions. This process can take a long time on a
large hard drive with badly fragmented files, so it may be advisable to
set this running at a quiet time computer wise or even over night.
There is another program I highly recommend for defragmenting which
is called Diskeeper Lite and is much better than the built-in version
that Windows has. It is available for a free download plus some more
articles about fragmentation of files from:http://www.executive.com/downloads/menu.asp
Defragmenting is best done as the last step.
Carrying out the above actions will make your PC run faster, be more
stable with less crashes and therefore less stress and frustration from
lost work. So get started now and clean up your PC and make it a habit
to do it regularly and keep your system running at peak performance.
Dont forget one of the most efficient upgrades you can do to your PC
is to add some more Memory. This is probably the single most costeffective improvement you can make to a slower machine. Buy direct
from the manufacturer at:- http://www.pcsandthings.com/crucial.htm
They have a system selector so you can choose the correct RAM for
your PC.
Be aggressive. When they appear, and they will, knock them down,
toss them out with the trash. And quickly. Don't give them room to
smell or grow. You'll soon discover each day will be lighter, brighter,
and even more successful than the one before. I promise!
These four techniques, continually proven by hundreds of my workshop
graduates, will work for you too. They will multiply your dreams and
successes over night. Begin small, begin big, just begin, and keep the
momentum going...until.
