ASSESSMENT
How will you determine
that learner objective has
been met?

Introduce the new piece by starting with

the email received from the composer of I
Hear My Song; Cynthia Gray. Explain why
Cynthia wrote the piece of music, what it
means to her, and what expectations you
would like from the students while singing
the piece.
Good morning! Lets begin by first taking
out our music in our folders, and making
sure you have a pencil handy. Throughout
the rehearsal, if youre missing a note, or
need help remembering something that is
said, please write it in your music.
Today, we will all be learning the melody
together. Lets try sight-reading from the
beginning. Ill play the piano part with you
to help along the way. While sight
reading, its important to know that you
shouldnt stop singing, even if a certain
part trips you up- keeping going and find
your way back in. (Begin sight-reading
from the top).
(Go over any problem areas from page 2-3
after sight-reading once through).
Now that we have that part figured out,
please turn to page 6. Youll notice that
we have the melody reoccurring but with
different words. Lets start at the top of
page 6. Remember- same melody,
different words. The rhythm might be a
little different too. See if you can catch
those sections! (Begin playing from the
top of page 6 to the bottom of page 7).
(Go over any problem areas from those
pages)
Excellent! We have just learned the
melody/verses to this piece.
Students will sing proper notes and with
good tone quality during rehearsal.
Students will respond to Cynthia Grays
email through class discussion.
