Chapter 3 is very important because it talks about the meaning and how to create lesson
plans. In the special education field it will always be important for me to find new ways to insert
technology with learning. Now since there have been apps created specifically for special
education, it would be a great resource in the classroom. I learned about the Dynamic
Instructional Design Model which provides a step by step framework for an instructional unit
and its plan. The first step is to know the learner; you must design the instruction to meet the
needs of the individuals in the classroom, which can incorporate multiple learning styles. The
second step is the standards aligned performance objectives, which describe what the student will
be able to do as the result of instruction. The performance objective consists of three key
components: a targeted student performance, a description of the method for assessing the
intended performance, and a criterion for measuring success. The third step is to identify
teaching and learning strategies. The fourth step is to select support technologies; technology
should support a teachers professional judgment as to which are the best strategies are best
before considering the use of any technology. The last step is to assess and revise. There are two
types of assessments; the first one is formative assessment which goes on through the lesson,

summative assessment occurs at the end of instruction. In the special education field it could be
beneficial to use both types of assessment in the classroom for each lesson. In a science eighth
grade science class I would have my students create a portfolio and inside they will store all the
lab reports and experiments that they conducted throughout the year. Then for a final project I
would conduct a portfolio assessment to make sure that each student fully understood each
lesson, and grade them upon how their understanding has progressed and become more diverse
over the school year.
