How to Help your Kids Study for a Vocabulary Test

Learning vocabulary does not come easy to most kids. It certainly isn’t
an innate ability, but one that needs to be practiced word by word, over and over again. If your child needs help
studying for a vocabulary test,  give them the following tips:
1. Ask them to write down the list of vocabulary words they are being tested on – one word per line; or make
use of flashcards, with one word per flashcard.
2. Tell them to write down the definitions of the words next to each word. Or on the back of each flashcard.
3. Suggest they read over the definitions and repeat it out loud five times.
4. Point out they need to read the word in context to make sure they really understand its meaning.
5. Suggest they make associations to that word. Talk out loud to activate their auditory memory. Make a small
story about the word, or link it to similar words.
6. Use the word in a sentence and write out that sentence.
7. For visual learners, ask your child to search for an image online to match that word.
