In Alabama, a Supreme Court Justice, Tom Parker, works to create a
judicial atmosphere that could overturn the U.S. Supreme Court case, Roe v
Wade, where abortion would qualify as first degree murder. Other states, like
Colorado and North Dakota, will decide whether the right to life is applied
at every stage of life in the upcoming months.
On October 14, 2014, the Supreme Court blocked a Texas law that
closed many abortion clinics. The courts order allowed 13 clinics to re-open.
In the 14th Amendment, it is said that No state shalldeprive any
person life, liberty, or property, without due process of law The Burger
Court extended the right of privacy to include a woman's right to have an
abortion (before the third trimester) in Roe v Wade. The Supreme Courts
decision said that although states may regulate access to abortion, they may
not pose an undue burden on women who seek an abortion early in
pregnancy. This makes undue burden and due process of law open to
interpretation that could potentially infringe womens rights.
Women should retain their right to make informed decisions about their
reproductive health and government should protect it. Pro-choice includes
access to safe abortion, birth control, sex education, and supporting healthy
pregnancies.
