We are the social media generation, there is no doubt about


that. Unless you are a Buddhist monk meditating out in the
Himalayas, you probably havent gone a single day without
looking at some sort of social media platform. Some people
can recall a simpler life without the daily distractions of
Twitter. However, there are kids that are growing up only
knowing a life concerned with how many likes they got on an
Instagram photo. Ever since the trend of social media started,
kids can be found with their eyes glued to their cell phones.
The presence of social media has become such a constant that
many people dont realize the power that it has over them. It
has become something addictive and sometimes quite
detrimental. The truth is, social media has evolved into an
influence that can often times promote toxic messages to the
youth of this generation. The influence media has on body
image isnt something new, but social media in particular is
reaching new heights in how these negative messages are
portrayed. The influence of social media on teens is not a direct
cause of eating disorders, but it does promote messages that
trigger them.
