Observation 2
Background Information
3-5
Felipe
Boondocks, Draper UT
About 12 kids, birthday party

I was at boondocks for the day with my boy and saw a group of
children that seem to fit this age range. I decided to make this to my
advantage a study on of the children.
Physical Development
I decided to analyze little Felipe, He seemed a little large than the rest
of the kids as far as size and height. He was not the tallest child or the
largest but he was one of the biggest there. All of his gross motor skills
seemed to be up to par. The kids were miniature golfing. Some of his
swings with the golf club were not the smoothest but for that age I
expect nothing more.

Cognitive Development
His preoperational intelligence seemed to be developing at a normal
rate. He was not smart enough to figure out the geometry of where to
hit the ball in order to bounce it off the rails, but what 5 year old is? But
he was smart enough to be asking many questions about what the
score was and who was wining. Piaget and Vygotsky both said that
children work to understand the world, and Felipe was doing just that
by asking questions and putting the answers to work (Berger 2014 pg
186).
Social/Emotional Development
Felipe seemed to be interacting very well with all of the other children.
An adult cane over to where some of the kids were not taking turns
and some of the kids were getting a little carried away by putting at
the same time but that stopped when the adult showed them once
again how o take turns. This made Felipe happy because the other kids

were not waiting their turn. This showed a sign of attachment or

(synchrony) towards the male that was in charge. (Berger 2014 pg
142)

Evaluation
Felipe seemed to be a very normal little 4 or five year old boy. He had
proper manners as far as waiting his turn to golf. He was normal height
and weight maybe a little bit on the higher percentile of normal. All of
his motor skills seemed to be working normal as well
