1) What is defined as matter?

Matter is consistent of mass and it is anything that takes up space.
The common forms of matter are solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. The
manner in which one change can something from a solid to liquid to
gas to plasma is through temperature. High/low temperature is the
primary way to change solid to liquid to gas to plasma or vice versa.
2) What is does a change of state mean?

Another name for a change of state is called a phase change. A phase

change is a physical change from one state of matter to another. This
change occurs through two common means: Temperature and
pressure.

3) What does it mean when a substance is solid?

When a substance is solid that means that the atoms of that
substance are so tightly packed together that it prevents moving
through the object; this is also why solids can hold their shape. For
example, a small pencil is a solid though it is not very dense, but what
makes solids unique is the fact that solids do not take the shape of
their container.

4) What does it mean when a substance is liquid?

When a substance is liquid that means that it does not hold its shape
at room temperature. For a substance to be liquid there has to be a slight
space between the atoms of the substance. The prime example of a
liquid is water, and what makes a liquid unique is that it can take the
shape of its container.

5) What does it mean when a substance is gas?

When a substance is gas that means that the atoms within the
substance have larger space between them than liquids. A primary
example of gas is steam, and most often gases are referred to as
vapors. The main aspect that make gases unique is that it can take
the shape of any container and it is completely free to move
around, unlike solids and liquids.

6) What does it mean when a substance is plasma?

For a substance to be plasma, the atoms of the substance are free
electrons and ions of an element. A prime example of this would
be the element Neon (Ne). What makes plasma unique is the fact
that it is not commonly found on earth. On the other hand, a place
where you can try to find plasma is within lightening.
Now state your favorite state of matter, and a real world example of it?
My favorite state of matter would be plasma. I choose plasma
because before this lesson I did not know anything about plasma,
but now I know that plasma is found in neon, which can be found
in lightning.
