Have several students repeat steps in their own words,
especially if theyre not paying attention

1. Factor Trees on whiteboards
Get two students to hand out whiteboards and two to hand out
marker bags

Students draw a factor tree for a given number on their


whiteboards, and then when everyone is ready, they reveal
them to the class
Have two or three students with different factor trees share
their answers
Repeat for several numbers
Watch out for students who consistently dont get it, and mark
it down; address them privately (or on tomorrows worksheet)
to come see me for help

2. Prime number slap


Get into a pair (1 group of 3 in 6A) with someone you know
youll work with.
Each pair gets one deck of cards. Split the deck in half between
the two of you
Flip one card each. This creates your number.
J, Q, K = 10, Joker = 0
Slap it if it is prime; dont slap if its composite.
If you slapped a prime before your partner, point for you! If
you slapped a composite, lose a point.
Watch each students progress; if they arent working well with
that partner or are consistently losing/not being involved,
either help or switch their groups

3. Factor Tree War


Now switch games; were going to play Factor War as you
already know it, except now were going to include factor trees
Flip two cards; that is your number
First person to draw the correct factor tree for that number on
their whiteboard gets a point!
What is the procedure if a number comes up as prime in this
game?

Call attention using hands-up method; bring students back to desks


and put away whiteboards/cards
