Cross-Curricular Connections

1. On day six, students are given a worksheet a help them keep track of the
amount volume that each container holds, there are six containers and they
are all different sizes. After the students complete the worksheet they will
turn it into the teacher. The teacher will then gather the data and they will
use the information in math class to determine which container held the most
water and which container held the least amount of water.
2. On day seven, students are learning about the addition of energy and one of
the processes is melting. In language arts the teacher can read the story
The Snowy Day to the students. This is one of the books from the
curriculum corner. This would be a good book for the teacher to read to
students because it talks about a snow day then goes into talking the little
boys adventures in the snow and how he wants to save some snow for later
in his pocket. If the teacher reads this after they learn about the process of
melting the teacher will be able to ask students questions as they are reading
the book to them.
3. Throughout the unit I would have the students spelling words be the same
vocabulary words that they are learning about in the unit. When the students
are practicing spelling the word and are learning about what it means they
are making personal connections that will help them understand and develop
a deeper understanding of the word and the words throughout the unit.
