Dreams Come True

Dreams Come True is a nonprofit that provides dreams to children with life-threatening
illnesses in Louisiana.
Dreams Come True was founded in 1982 by seven families in Denham Springs, La. The
seven families worked together for a common goal of providing dreams to local children with
life-threatening illnesses. These families originally supplied all of the funding for the dreams;
The organization soon expanded its fundraising and became a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt
organization.
The original seven families decided to have their work be focused in South Louisiana.
Dreams Come True may be familiar to others as its purpose is similar to other organizations;
however, it has grown to the entire state of Louisiana and remains strictly a local organization.
The organization changed its name in 2006 to Dreams Come True of Louisiana.
Individuals can refer a child between the ages of 3 and 18 with a life-threatening illness
to the Dreams Come True Medical Board. Once their application and condition are reviewed, if
approved, they are then eligible for a dream. Dreams are granted in Louisiana, but families can
travel outside of Louisiana for the childs dream. Approximately 50 dreams are granted each
year.
