Todays the day after the supposed blizzard and they kept the Art Gallery closed until
now. Today there is a man in a black suit playing the piano; he looks like a professional. He
might be with the governors group that came today. My fourth criteria for the Art Gallery is that
it is goal oriented. On the student union Art Gallery website there is a mission statement that
says, The Student Union Art Gallery strives to create visual dialogue for student life using
exhibitions. This mission statement shows that the gallerys goals are to allow students to share
their passion, which is another one of my criteria, with others and a community of people who
gather with common interests. Their goals are to inspire the community with a place where
anyone can express what they love or to show off their talent. The Art Gallery also has a Value
Statement that states, The Art Gallery strives to: showcase unique and high-quality exhibits that
represent UNC Charlotte as well as the local and regional arts community, provide a welcoming
atmosphere that fosters the exchange of ideas and intellectual engagement, promote emerging
creative processes on campus and in the larger art world, and to curate exhibits that heighten
students awareness of current social and cultural discourse. The Art Gallery wants to help new
artists succeed and get their artwork out in the world for others to see. They want to create a
place where one can share ideas with others and help each other get inspired or how they can
improve. The Art Gallery can allow helpful criticism to help them improve or fix small problems
they may not have noticed. The Art Gallery meets this criteria because they strive to help

aspiring artists with their artwork and aid in their future success as an artist. Since there is an
exhibition collection in the gallery now, they are helping promote this collections message and
also each individual artist and their piece. The goal of improvement can also be shown through
the piano because when the players practices their music the listeners can give feedback that
could help the person improve and gain more confidence while playing. When people walk to
see who is playing and praise the player it can make them happy and want to continue what they
do best.
