The students will study suffixes and prefixes, compare characters across books through dramatization, and write a persuasive letter about keeping the earth healthy after studying "The Lorax". In math, they will assess adding two-digit numbers and start a measurement unit involving length. In science, they will observe and compare seeds to understand the plant life cycle. The teachers provide contact information and homework assignments, including reading logs and math worksheets. They also request donations of small toys, colored pencils, and hand sanitizer.

About this week
Word study: Suffixes and prefixes study. Reading: This week, the students will compare and contrast characters experiences across books and take turns acting and directing. They will present a dramatization of a story featuring a character they have spent time studying. Writing: After studying El Lorax. The students will write a persuasive letter to JGES students convincing them to keep our earth healthy. They will give 4 good reasons using the transition words first, then, next, last and a closing. Math: Adding two two-digit number problems assessment. Then, we will start the Measurement Unit. The students will express the length of an object as a whole number of length units, by laying multiple copies of a shorter object (the length unit) end to end and they will understand that the length measurement of an object is the number of same-size length units that span it with no gaps or overlaps. Science: We will go back to the Organisms Unit. The students will use their senses to observe a variety of seeds and to find out how the seeds are alike and different. They will begin to understand that a seed is the starting point in a plants life cycle.
