Year 5 Summer Term

Primary Learning Challenge Hero or Villain?


Each term we take a different focus for our learning. In our final term we will be studying Robin Hood.
If your child would like to research any of the following areas please encourage them to do so either
through using the internet or by borrowing books from Worksop library.

Learning Links
Superhero week During the first week of Summer term we will be reading Thors Super-Hammer Goes
Missing and using this as a stimulus to create our own comic strips and trailers about how our learning super
heroes got their powers. We will create some artwork based on Marvel comics and paintings by Lichtenstein.
Monday 27th April will be our WOW event for our new topic on Robin Hood. During these two weeks we will be
thinking about Medieval life and the legend of Robin Hood. Linked to this we will be creating artwork using
weaving. In Numeracy we will be learning about our number system, place value and also Roman numerals.
We will be exploring slam poetry in literacy and performing our own compositions. In Numeracy we will be
learning about fractions and linking this to percentages and decimals. Our RE unit will be based on religious
stories where we will explore the story The Good Samaritan.
For this fortnight, our science unit is based on forces. In art we will create clay tiles with a woodland theme.
We will write biographies about Robin Hood in literacy and begin a unit on statistics in numeracy.
In literacy we will be exploring classic and narrative poems. We will be developing our mental and written
calculations for addition and subtraction. In PE we will be developing skills for playing net and wall games.
Science will be focused on describing the changes in humans as they develop to old age.
During our final fortnight in Year 5, we will be composing our own Robin Hood performance which we will be
inviting parents to come and watch in the final week.
