Lesson Plan 1-3

The Physical Landscape


Chapter 6 January 8th 2015 (double period)
Objectives:
Students will start to learn about the Aztecs. They will find out how they founded their city (with
importance attributed to religion). They will also learn about the importance of aqueducts, and how
they work. They will think creatively in order to build a model of the city of Tenochtitlan. This can be
achieved in many different ways.
8.3.1 appreciate how a societys worldview influences the societys choices, decisions and interactions with other societies
(C, I)
8.3.4 assess, critically, how the Aztecs were affected by the Spanish worldview by exploring and reflecting upon the
following questions and issues: What were the key elements of the worldview of the Aztec civilization prior to contact with
the Spanish? (TCC, I, CC) How did the Aztec civilizations worldview influence the Aztecs choices, decisions and customs?

Materials:
Students will need:
- Textbook
- Notepaper/writing utensils
- Poster/clay/cardboard/etc.
- Laptop
- Handout 1-3
Teacher will need:
- Textbook
- PP 1-2
- Laptops booked
- Art room booked
- Handout 1-3 X25
Activities:
(5 minutes) Greet students and current events.
(15 minutes) Lecture: Students learn about the Island where Tenochtitlan is located
(20 minutes) Activity: Students respond to guided questions.
(45 minutes) Activity: Students create a product that represents Tenochtitlan. Important to
symbolize the reasons why the city was built where it was.

- Students have 4 classes to complete.
(2 minutes) Wrap up and review.
Assessment:
Students are formatively assessed on their collaboration, decision making, creativity.
Students are summatively assessed on their finalized product.
