The procedure of testing of stoves

The test of the stove shells for leakages and strength should be done after finishing
the refractory lining and installation of the following dividing valves.
1 Hot blast valve
2 Both chimney valves
3 Both chimney bypass valves
4 Gas burning valve and gas shut off valve
5 Air shut off valve
6 Cold blast valves
7 Cold blast equalizing valve
Tests can be done by means of supplying either compressed air or nitrogen.
Nitrogen is more preferable.
Pressure should be increased / decreased gradually by steps of 0.025 MPa
(0.25bar) with 5 minutes stop at each stage.
Shell and equipment to be examined after 10 minutes stabilization of operating
pressure
Test should be carried out with temperature of the media is 10c more than outside
temperature.
Soap solution will be used to check leakages.
Unauthorized persons should not be permitted to stay in the test zone
The stove should be tested with pressure in 3 stages as follows:
Stage: 1
Test pressure 0.07 MPa (0.7 bar)
Test duration is not limited
The stove shell should be checked for leakages through defects, if any.
In case of considerable leakages and pressure is dropping, test to be
discontinued.
Defects should be eliminated first and test to be carried out again
Stage: 2
Test pressure 0.475 Mpa (4.75 bar). This is 125 % of the operating pressure
and for checking the shell strength.
Test period is 5 minutes and during this period examination shell is not
necessary.

After 5 minutes pressure should be decreased down to the operating pressure

of 0.38 Mpa (3.8 bar)
Stage: 3
Test pressure 0.38 MPa (3.8 bar)
Test duration is 60 minutes minimum.
The stove shell should be checked for leakages through defects, if any.
During this period pressure drop to be calculated using the following
formula
Pressure drop, = 100 x (1- P end/ P start x T start / T end) where P end, P start
and T start, T end are absolute pressure and temperature of the media inside
stove
While testing shell by operating pressure, leakage points are to be noted and
to be eliminated after pressure is fully decreased.
In case of leakages, test with operating pressure will be carried out again
after defects are attended.
