Non-cyclic phosphorylation

How does Electron transfer work?

The electrons released by photosystem II are

accepted by electron acceptor A, which passes
the electron along a chain of electron carriers, at
subsequently lower energy levels, this drives
the movement of H+ to the inter-membrane
space of the chloroplast.

The H+ ion build-up allows them to diffuse back

via chemiosmosis, which in turn generates ATP
using an enzyme known as ATP synthase.

The reduced energy electrons are passed into

photosystem I to replace those previously
emitted from the P700 molecule.

NADP
What is NADP?
NADP is a Coenzyme used in
photosynthesis.
What are Coenzymes?
Coenzymes are molecules that
aids the function of an enzyme.

Forming Reduced NADP

At the final stage of non cyclic

phosphorylation, the electrons are
transferred to NADP along with H+
from the stroma to form reduced
NADP.

NADP + H+

How are electrons

replaced?

When chlorophyll loses its electrons, more

electrons are required to repeat the
process.

Light breaks down H2O into H+, O2 and e-.

H20

The electrons released then replace those

lost from photosystem II.
