Interviewee: Rev. Natosha Reid-Rice Interviewer: Elexia Allen Reverend Natosha Reid-Rice is an Associate Pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church, inspirational speaker, real estate attorney, and the Associate General Counsel at Habitat for Humanity. Rev. Rice is passionate about providing a voice to the voiceless and opportunities to disadvantaged communities. Rev. Rice is my personal spiritual leader and sparked my interest in sex trafficking three years ago. During my conversation with Rev. Rice about sex trafficking and Senate Bill 8 she told me is in favor of the bill and congratulates Congress for finally taking steps to address this issue which is happening all over the state and affecting so much of our population. Rev. Rice supports the regulatory fees it intended impose a 1% of earnings or $5,000 per year tax on adult entertainment establishments, however she other industries such as hotels, massage parlors contribute the fund as well. Reverend Rice is a prominent advocate for helping victims of sex trafficking live better lives. I asked Rev. Rice what she thinks needs to be done to make this silent issue more vocal to the community and she suggested awareness. This issue is often not at the forefront of someones mind and because its largely hidden and people are unaware of how often it happens. When I asked Rev. Rice about this issue in older adults she said people must let go of the notion that age makes a person less desirable and less at risk for abuse. It is important to protect all of our abused populations of people no matter the age and the more knowledge people have on the issue the more positive changes will be implemented to protect the most vulnerable populations.
