now is eagerly awaiting the day she

or move," she said. "But, I am just
the opposite; my muscles move all the
time. Some of the things a service dog
does for me is pick up things that I
drop and bark if I need assistance."
Gambon received her first service dog, Candie, in 2006 from the
National Education for Assistance
Dog Services (NEADS) Dogs for Deaf

and Disabled Americans. Unfortunately, in 2010, Gambons companion


was diagnosed with cancer and died
a week later at six-years-old.
Candie, a purebred yellow Labrador retriever, was trained at the
J.J. Moran Correctional Facility in
Cranston, R.I., a program through
NEADS that allows inmates to train

Chief Paul Porter will
be serving as Holbrooks
interim police commissioner until a permanent
chief is found.
The board of selectmen on March 12 voted
3-0 (Matthew Moore was
absent) to appoint Porter on
an interim basis to lead the
towns police department.
Porter served as Randolphs
police chief for 35 years and
retired in 2010.

appointed by the board on
Feb. 6 to serve for 30 days
on an emergency basis after
William Marble Jr. stepped
down to return to the rank
of sergeant. Marble said
that he and the board could
not reach an agreement on
a contract and decided to

Police: Grandmother drove break-in suspect

A Holbrook man charged


with breaking into a house
in a gated community had
his 64-year-old grandmother drive him there,
then wait for him in the
driveway, police said.

Gabriel Nieves, 22,


whose last known address
is 13 Indian Road, Holbrook, is charged with
felony breaking and
entering during the day,
larceny from a building,

and malicious damage to


property.
Nie ves was arrested
by Brockton police on a
Hingham warrant and on
additional charges March
3. He is now being held

at the Plymouth County


jail and is scheduled to be
arraigned on the Hingham
charges April 7 in Hingham
District Court.
