Abstract #1
Electronic Recording Pros/Cons of Patient Records
Electronic Health Record Systems: Risks and Benefits
Author Lucila Ohno-Machado has conducted several interviews
with various medical providers concerning Electronic Health Records
(EHR) systems. All of the medical providers interviewed gave what
they believe are the pros and cons of the EHR system they have
implemented in their facilities. Many of the providers stated their
favorite part of the system was improved process outcomes.
Specifically one provider stated that the EHR system has provided
better outcomes for diabetes patients treated in the Emergency
Department. On the other hand, a common dislike of the EHR system
is the time it takes to train and implement the system. This article
showed me that even though it may be a rough road to get the system
up and running, it is well worth it in the long run.
