Lesson Plan: First Group Time

Prior Knowledge

SW have read (listened) to Twelfth Night in its entirety and will


understand the basic system of Shakespeare.

Lesson Objective(s)

SWBAT work in groups, brainstorming and working together to


begin piecing together a revised script, following the social and
political norms of their time period they researched.

Lesson Assessment

Parts are chosen, time period is assigned per scene, and


students begin thinking about different parts of their scene
necessary such as props, costumes, accents, etc.

Standards

Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used


in the text, including figurative and connotative meanings;
analyze the impact of specific word choices on meaning and
tone, including words with multiple meanings or language that is
particularly fresh, engaging, or beautiful. (Include Shakespeare
as well as other authors.)

Materials Needed

Guiding handout with questions for brainstorming, paper,


pencils, portions of scripts.

Time

2 minutes

Get into groups.

Groups will be assigned by the teacher.


Scenes will be handed out to each
group.

5 minutes

Parts are chosen within groups.

Students can select their own parts.


(Rock paper scissors if there is a
problem or if multiple people want the
same role.)

Remaining

Students makes choices about


the construction of their scene
and start making decisions.

Students use question handout to


brainstorm and ideas.
-What are they going to wear?
-What is their tone going to be?
-Are you going to change any
words?
-Where are they going to stand

and block the scene?
