Lesson Objectives
Upon completion of this lesson the students will be able to:
Describe what a community helper is, and what they do
Support their reasons of why they think that community
helpers are needed

Prerequisite knowledge
To have a basic understanding of how to be a help to others

Lesson paper where the students circle all the things a
firefighter would have
Short video on how we benefit from community helpers
Coloring pages of general community helpers

V.

Introductory/Anticipation Set
Put on a firefighters hat
Explain that were going to learn how much we need
community helpers
How we all can be a help to the community

Transition
I will spend a spend a few minutes telling the students about
how the firemen helped me and my family when my home
caught on fire
Lesson Body
We will watch the short video on community helpers
Have a fireman come into class to talk about his job
We will have a short role play where the students demonstrate
jobs of community helpers
Do the coloring pages

Conclusion
Discuss ideas on how the students can be a community
helper themselves.

Assessment
The students will do the paper where they circle the objects
that a fireman would have.
The students will explain to me how they think they can be a
community helper

Adaptations/Modifications
Brake into smaller groups for parts of the lesson
Spend one on one time with students who are having a harder
time learning
