    DEFINITION
    Materials which changes their color reversibly when
    they are kept in a different electronic state

    Categories
    1. Soluble in both neutral state and electron
    transfer. (ex: ethyl viologen)

    2. Soluble in neutral state and form solid in


    electrode surface. (ex: heptyl viologen)

    3. Form solid in both neutral state and after the


    electron transfer. (ex: metal oxide films and
    conducting polymers)
