Objective: The student will be able to understand the consequences
of the Atomic bomb on animals in Japan during WWII.
Daily Warm Up:
In your journal: If you could be any animal, what would you be? Why?
Please write a paragraph.
Introduction: Today we are going to read the story Faithful
Elephants. We will discuss the story and what other options could have
been taken.
Activity:
As a class we will read the story, Faithful Elephants.
After we read students will discuss other options the story could
have followed instead of what actually happened.
We will then read an article about interesting animals helping in
war.
Students will then have to take the animals they wrote about in
their journals and write about how that animal would be used in
a war.
Students will share when finished.

Summary/Closure:
What happened to many animals during WWII in Japan? Does this
make you think what else could we have done? What would you have
done in the situation? We must remember there were more
consequences than just loss of human life during WWII.
Accommodations:
The story will be read aloud to the class. Everyone will write their own
information to the best of their ability.
Assessment:
Students will share ideas of how animals could be used in war as well
as have a discussion about
