Collaborative Group Work

Collaborative structures allows for higher order thinking, oral
communication, self-management and leadership skills. Being the
primary focus of this workshop, students are given the
opportunity to share knowledge and build from other students
experiences.
Contextualization
Students should be encouraged to link learning to real life, to
their society and to their societal issues. Within the classroom
walls a good teacher will adapt inquiry approaches with strong
values focusing in authentic civic situations.

Activities

Inquiry based Learning

Workshop One - Source Analysis

This allows the teacher to develop learning together with the

students but ultimately the emphasis is on the students
understanding of the world. (Reynolds, 2014 p50) Allowing
students to research and question their knowledge is essential
within the lessons provided. Students are given the opportunity to
self assess their knowledge and

Workshop Two Tug of War

Within this activity students will look at first hand

accounts of the landings and everyday life at Gallipoli. As
historians, it is important to analyse these primary sources,
using your historical skills! Collaboratively students will work
with a partner to decode and assess these sources.

The Tug of War activity displayed on a rope helps to make

students' thinking visible. Most importantly, their ideas are
displayed in a way that shows their interconnectedness. The
collaborative thinking process of the group as a whole is
represented through the "action" of the tug of war. This is
a key point about making thinking visible: It shows the
dynamic interaction of people's thoughts in a context of a
shared inquiry. Documenting thinking and making it visible in
the classroom can facilitate this.

Interactive Learning
The integration of ICT capabilities in teaching, learning and
assessment can lead to enhanced outcomes for students. Through
ICT, teachers allow student to develop the knowledge, skills,
understanding, attitudes and behaviors to assist students to live
and work successfully in the 21st century (Board of Studies
NSW, 2012).

Using a Historical Check List Students analyse a presented

source to evaluate its significance in society.
