In just the past year, the Emory & Henry Gay
Straight Alliance has had a number of diverse individuals
visit the campus to be part of events. Two of these have
been a transgender comedian and a drag queen. GSA has
had dinners with each of the guests before their events to
get to know them.
The annual events that GSA holds are the Drag
Show and Safe Zone Training. The Drag Show is always
held on the National Day of Silence. President of the
Emory & Henry Gay Straight Alliance Leigh Ann Hartless
takes part in breaking the silence every year:

Its a day where everyone is supposed to take

time to reflect on how the LGBT community
is really not treated as equally and especially in our
government. So what we do is we tape over, we put
duct tape over our mouths for the whole day or we
just try not to talk the entire day to really kind of let
that sink in.
The other event is Safe Zone Training which is
every semester. Safe Zone Training teaches students what
to say and how to say it in order to become a safe person to
talk to. You can tell who these people are by their Safe
Zone sticker. GSA takes part in other events on campus,
like cardboard cities.
