onald Lawrence Ron Kovic served two tours of
duty during the Vietnam War as a Marine Corps sergeant. He was paralyzed from his chest down in combat
in Vietnam on January 20, 1968, and has been in a wheelchair ever since. He is an accomplished author and painter,
and a tireless advocate for peace. Alone with Oliver Stone,
Kovic was the co-screenwriter of the Academy Award-winning film Born on the Fourth of July, based on th book.

Born on the Fourth of July is a candid memoir by Ron Kovic published

in 1976, the year after the United States pulled out of Vietnam and ended the war. It details Kovics journey from a stereotypical all-American boy during the 1950s to an eager soldier in Vietnam in the mid1960s. It also explores his paralysis from the chest down as a result of
combat in Vietnam, his later disillusionment with American policy towards
Vietnam and the war, and his involvement in the anti-war movement.

Ron Kovics memoir is a classic of antiwar literature.

WITH A NEW INTRODUCTION BY THE AUTHOR

There is no book more relevant in the 21st century to healing

the war of Vietnam... It remains to Kovic to remind us that history matters, and that the cost of our high follies persists.

THE

Ron Kovic is one of the premier voices of a generation. The

large irony of his birthday provides the background for a journey which begins with the unquestioning service in Vietnam,
his terrible wounding with all the anger and bitterness that
follows, and ends with his passioante discovery of a large and all
too human heart. Ill say this flat out: If you want to understand
the everlasting reverberations of our war in Vietnam and how it
impacts our current events, you must read this book.
