PONG ROLL BACK

-Predict how many times it will take for

you to roll the ball up and around the
meter stick and land on the spot.
-Try it! Be sure to keep your hand
behind the start line as you release
the ball.
-If you miss the spot, try again from
the start line.
-Name the simple machines you see.
Write down your observations.

BUCKET BALL

-Roll the golf ball into the bucket. Pull

the rope to lift the bucket.
-Tip the bucket to roll ball down poster
board and onto the spot.
-If the ball misses the spot, try again
from the beginning.
-Name all of the simple machines you
used and write down any observations
you have.

FAN BALL
-Predict which ball will take the least
amount of taps or touches to get to
the spot.
-Balls must roll around obstacles.

-Make a frequency table for keeping

track of tally marks. Make a tally for
each time you touch the marble, the
ping-pong ball and the green ball.
-Keep track of the number of times
you touch each ball using tally marks.
Begin counting at the start line and
stop counting when the ball is on the
spot.
-Make a graph showing the number of
touches needed for each ball.
-Based on your data, which ball was
the most difficult to move to the spot.

SAND TRAP
-Predict if one ball will go farther than
the other. Predict if one course will
have the ball go farther than the other.
-Place a marble at the top of each
course and release them at the same
time. Dont push them.

-Repeat with the golf balls and the

cars.
Write down your results and your
observations.
-Are there any simple machines?
Name them.

SHOEBOX SHIMS
-Predict the number of wooden shims
it will take to separate the boxes wide
enough to roll the ball through.
-Dont touch the boxes with your
hands.
-Push one shim at a time between the
boxes until there are enough shims
separating the boxes for the ball to roll
through. Remove the shims and count
them.

-Roll the ball through and onto the

spot. If you miss the spot, try again
from the start line.
-Write down your observations
including the names of any simple
machines.

BOUNCE BACK
-Begin by aiming at the wall. Roll the
ball at the wall. Have it bounce off the
wall and land on the number one spot.
-When you roll, be sure your hand
does not go past the start line.
-Adjust the angle of your roll and the
strength of your push until you have
the ball landing on the spot.
-Repeat with the other 2 balls.
-Then do the same thing aiming at
spot number 2.
-Write down your observations.

SEE SAW GOLF

-Predict how many washers it will take
to balance the golf ball.

-Experiment with the pencil. Move it

toward the golf ball end. What
happens? Move it toward the washers.
Write down what you observe.
-Name the simple machines you see.
Draw a diagram and label the parts.

UP AND UP

-Look at the two ramps. Write down

how they are the same and how they
are different.
-Predict how many times it will take to
land on the spot.
-Begin at the start line. Roll the ball up
the first ramp to the spot.
-Keep trying if you miss.
-Reposition the ball for the second
ramp.
-Will it take more or fewer times to hit
the second spot?
-Try it out.
-Write down your observations and
name the simple machine.

LEGOS AND MARBLES

-Predict how many marbles the Lego
wagon can carry.
-Fill it up with marbles.

Place the wagon without wheels at the

bottom of the hill.
-Begin by pulling it up the hill. Stop
half way up and measure the length of
the rubber band. Continue pulling it
over the hill.
-Attach the wheels and pull the wagon
half way up the hill. Measure the
length of the rubber band. Pull the
wagon over the hill.
-Write down your observations
including the types of simple machines
you used.
