Project Plan
I will be volunteering at Thunder ridge elementary with the second graders. I will be
helping the students who have a harder time learning with math, English, and reading. I have
been going every Friday since January 16th 2015. Every Friday the time is different due to work
and college but I am in a classroom for at least 2 to 3 hours.
Civic Engagement
I think civic engagement means that you get involved with your community by serving or
actively helping others who need help but dont ask for it.
Personal Culture
I am in my early 20s, I have lived in Utah my whole life. Im single and I attend SLCC. I
plan on getting all my generals done at SLCC, then transfer to another college when I decide
what I want to major in. I am a member of the LDS (Latter-Day Saints) church and going to
institute at SLCC. Im not very political if it interest me I get involved if not I dont. Im pretty

flexible when it comes to politics. I love all kinds of art and get involved with art whenever I
can.
Culture Groups
I anticipate working with young students first and second graders most of them with
learning disabilities, I also hope to work with some of the kids that are from a different culture
than me. Not just age, and learning but culturally as well.
Challenges
I have never tutored children before so I dont know what to expect, Im nervous I wont
be able to understand them or have patience with them. I dont know what level the kids are at so
I will have to learn the best way to teach them and help them.
Benefits
I love children they are fun and have an open mind about others, I hope to see through
their eyes and gain a perspective of how they view life. I also wanted to see if I want to teach
elementary so this will be good to get some first-hand experience on whether or not I would want
to do this in the future.
