Educational Impacts

Why is the general education classroom not what gifted

students need?
The curriculum is not challenging
Instructional pace is too slow
Mastered information is repeated often
Not enough opportunities available to study
topics of personal interests

Emphasis on mastery of facts, rather than on

thinking skills, predominates.

How can the teacher recognize this in

students?
Might look like ADHD
Teachers can look for characteristics in students such
as: curiosity, rapid rates of development, creativity,
thoughtfulness, and innovativeness.
IQ tests are the most common way in which children
are determined eligible for programs in education of
the gifted. --However portfolios, and teacher
nominations can also be used.
