DRILLERS METHOD

1. Once the well is shut in, record the SIDPP and the SICP.
FIRST CIRCULATION
1. If a SCR pressure is taken, then calculate the pressure required on the drill pipe
for the first circulation
a. ICP=PSCR + SIDPP
2. Open the choke about 1/4.
3. Start pump and break circulation. Bring the pump up to KILL RATE.
4. While driller is bringing the pumps up to the kill rate, the CHOKE OPERATOR
SHOULD MAINTAIN the CASING PRESSURE EQUAL/CLOSE to the SICP.
5. Pumps are now working at the KILL RATE. CHOKE OPERATOR SHOULD
NOW LOOK at the DRILL PIPE PRESSURE and maintain it to ICP
6. The choke operator should adjust the choke to maintain the drill pipe pressure at
ICP, until all the Kick is circulated. The pumps should be operated at the KILL
RATE throughout.
7. Once the kick is out of the hole, Casing Pressure= SIDPP, SHUT THE WELL
IN, and mix up the kill mud weight required.
a. Kill Weight Mud= OMW + (SIDPP/(TVD x 0.052)
SECOND CIRCULATION
1. Once the Kill Mud is ready, OPEN THE CHOKE ABOUT .
2. START THE PUMP and break circulation. Bring the pumps to the KILL RATE.
3. CHOKE OPERATOR TO MAINTAIN THE CASING PRESSURE TO
PREVIOUS SHUT IN VALUE (SIDPP) BY ADJUSTING CHOKE
4. SET THE STROKE COUNTER ON THE CHOKE PANEL TO 0.
5. MAINTAIN THE CASING PRESSURE AT SIDPP.
6. CALCULATE THE FCP= SCRP x (KMW/OMW). When Drill pipe pressure
equals FCP the Kill Mud is at the bit.
( While circulating Kill Mud, observe pressure drop from ICP to FCP for each stroke
Pressured drop/100 stk = ((ICP FCP)/ (pump stks to fill the string vol) ) x 100 )
7. CONTINUE PUMPING TILL YOU RECEIVE UNCONTAMINATED KILL
MUD AT THE SHAKERS
