Biography on William Golding

Student: Maria Jose Salazar

Teacher: Gavin Hill
Class: 10th a
William Golding was a British novelist, he was recognized because he wrote the
acclaimed classic Lord of the Flies, and was awarded the Novel Prize for
literature in 1983.
Golding was born in September 19, 1911, in Saint Columb Minor, Cornwall,
England. His first school was the Grammar school. In 1934, Golding published his
first work, entitled Poems. His father wanted him to be a scientist, but instead, he
decided to study English literature. Golding studied in Oxford, Marlborough, and
Brasenose College. In 1935, he started teaching English and Philosophy in
Salisbury.
He temporarily left teaching in 1940 to join the Royal Navy. In 1945, Golding
returned to teaching and writing, after World War II ended. In 1954 he published his
first novel Lord of the Flies, and was awarded the Novel Prize in 1983. June 19,
1993 he died in Perranarworthal, Cornwall, England.
I think his literature was influenced by the pastime of his life, after living in difficult
times such as the Second World War. He wrote about a more cruel reality and left
behind what we call nowadays happy endings. He learned to see life from a sad
and more realistic point of view.
Ok, you have made a really good start here. Dont think your using pastime in the
correct context and the sentence starting in 1934 doesnt seem to be in the
correct place.
Would have been better with more information on his role in the war, because that
impacts your conclusion.
