POWER SYSTEM ANALYSIS

Note: All questions are compulsory. Attempt any two questions from each section.
(Section A)
Q.1) Discuss an algorithm for load flow analysis using Newton Raphson method. Find
bus admittance for a n/w shown in fig (1)

Q.2) Formulate the mathematical model for load flow analysis of a power system using
Gauss Seidal method. Also give detailed steps for implementing it considering also
voltage controlled buses.

Q.3) Discuss the classification of buses for power flow analysis. What is Y-bus. Explain
the development of power flow equation.

(Section B)
Q.1) i) Deduce swing equation of a synchronous machine connected to an infinite bus.

ii) Describe point by point solution technique of swing equation for transient
stability for power system .

Q.2) Explain equal area criterion for stability. In a system given by following fig (2)
where a three phase fault is applied at P as shown.

Q.3) Derive an expression for maximum power transfer between two nodes. Show that
this power is maximum when X=3 R , where X is reactance and R is resistance of
system. And also discuss the method of improving transient state stability of a power
system.

Q.1) Show that velocity of travelling wave can be given by v=1/LC. Explain the
procedure for drawing Bewleys lattice diagram with the help of suitable example.

Q.2) Discuss the behaviour of travelling waves when it reaches i) short circuited ii) open
circuit transmission lines. And also show that surges behaves as travelling waves. (10)
Q.3) Deduce the general expression for refraction and reflection of travelling waves. And
derive an expression for single line to ground fault.
