The document discusses the staggering amount of household rubbish produced in the UK each year. It states that the average UK household produces over a ton of waste annually, with plastic waste accounting for 2 million tonnes per year alone. Most of this waste could be recycled but is not. The document also notes that food packaging, which often has multiple layers, contributes significantly to waste. It concludes that the UK needs to reduce the 2 million tonnes of plastic waste produced each year.

Information from the Young Peoples Trust for the Environment- 2004
The amount of rubbish we are throwing away every year is staggering,
and we are still making the numbers rise. Only the UK are using 2 million tonnes of plastics every year, and thats only 10% of the total households rubbish. According to YPTE 2004 are the regular household in the Britain today producing about a ton of waste every year and we are producing it more than ever. The rubbish waste has escalate the last 40 years and each person generates 10 time more household rubbish than their own weight. In an averaged household with four members are they throwing away about two sacks of waste every week that contains; 30% Paper and card, 30% kitchen waste, 10% glass, 10% metal and 8% plastic. Most of it can be recycled, but we dont. The most dangerous waste is the plastic and every year each person is throwing away 45kg and that ends up with more than 2 million tonnes of plastic in the UK every year, and thats only 10% of all the household rubbish they produce every year. Food are often packed in many layers to look more attractive and make more people by the item. A Womens Environmental Network group bought normal groceries for a family in two weeks, they count that it was 543 packaging and some items was wrapped up to 5 layers. The UK burns 10% of all the domestic waste but this method is not very good for the people or the environment. Some plastics, practiced and wood are producing dioxins when they are burned, and that are extremely poisonous. The UK is throwing away 2 million tonnes of plastic every year, and it need to stop.
