    Robert Schumann was a German romantic composer born in 1810 in Zwickau, Saxony who died in 1856 in Bonn. He was a pianist and composer best known for his piano music, Lieder (art songs), and orchestral works. After injuring his finger, Schumann pursued composition full-time and married pianist Clara Wieck in 1840. He composed his First Symphony which was performed in Leipzig and worked as a professor of music while also struggling with depression and mental health issues later in life.
