GREENLAND

INTRODUCTION
WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING?
Global warming is growing heat-trapping
gases in the atmosphere which causing
global temperature to rise. According to
the report to the Commerce Department
from Consul, at Bergen, Norway, the
Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are
growing scarcer and in some places the
seals are finding the water too hot.

Climate change and global warming


are hot topics of discussion all over
the world. This condition also affects
places nearby Arctic Ocean
especially Greenland.

Greenland is one of the largest


islands in the world and is mostly
covered by an ice cap of more than
2.5 million cubic km. The effects of
climate change due to global
warming are most visible at
Greenland, where the ice cap is
melting at a very fast rate.

Due to climate change, the winter


temperatures on the ice cap
ofGreenland have increased by
about5 degrees Celsius, spring and
autumn temperatures have
increased by about 3 degrees
Celsius. Summer temperatures have
remained unchanged.
