The Overland Park Police Department conducted a DUI checkpoint on May 1, 2015 with assistance from other local law enforcement agencies. Overland Park Police Department Check Lane Results
On May 1, 2015, officers with the Overland Park, Kansas Police Department, along with members from the Kansas Highway Patrol, Johnson County Sheriff's Department, Miami County Sheriff's Department, Gardner Police Department, Merriam Police Department and Mission Police Department, conducted a DUI Check Lane in the area of 87th Street and Metcalf Avenue. This check lane was part of an ongoing goal to reduce alcohol-related crashes and impaired driving through highly visible enforcement. 869 vehicles entered the check lane. This zero-tolerance, focused effort resulted in 68 drivers evaluated and tested. They arrested a total of 7 drivers for DUI. In addition, 3 arrests were made for transporting an open container and 1 arrest was made for possession of drugs. On the average, it took less than three minutes for a vehicle to pass through the lane, but in that time, officers strived to deliver a clear message that impaired driving is a crime and drunk drivers in Overland Park will be caught. ###
