Antigone Reader Response

1.) The doom reserved for enemies marches on the ones we love the most Antigone Pg. 59
Line 12.
This quote is showing Antigones loyalty to her family. What she is saying is that her
family should not be paying this price, but instead someone who has actually done wrong to the
rulers.

2.) Think of what a death well die, the worst of all if we violate the laws and override the fixed
decree of the throne Ismene Pg. 62 line 71. This quote reveals the true personality of Ismene.
She is not willing to die for the honor of her family. She is more afraid of what the rulers will do
than Antigone is. Instead of standing up for herself and her family she would rather keep quiet.

3.) I could never stand by silent, watching destruction march against our city, putting safety to
rout, nor could I ever make that man a friend of mine who menaces our country. Creon Pg. 68
line 207. This quote shows that Creon would die for his country. He takes leadership very
seriously, and would put the country or law before himself or his friends.
