This is a reminder it is mandatory in New York State to have your child screened for lead at age one and at age two. Your childs doctor
should also be asking risk assessment questions at ages three, four and five.

1. Clean floors, window sills,


and all other woodwork
using wet method. Use
HEPA vacuum, no dry
sweeping
2. Stabilize structure by
eliminating plumbing
leaks and defective lead
paint
3. Make sure children do not
have access to peeling or
chipping paint or
chewable surfaces
covered with lead paint
4. Wash childrens hands
and face frequently and
before eating meals,
after playing and before
bed
5. Wash toys, pacifiers,
bottles with soap and
water
6. Soil around houses built
before 1978 or near
major high ways or soil
known or contain lead
7. Do not sand, dry scrape,
strip or use a heat gun on
existing paint
8. Make sure children eat
regular meals which are
high in iron, calcium and
vitamin C
9. Do not store or serve

During the Renovation:


Contain the work area: cover
the floors and furniture that
cannot be moved and seal off all
doors, heating and cooling
system vents. This prevents
dust and debris from getting
away from the work area.
Avoid renovation methods
that generate large amounts
of lead contamination: open
flame burning or torching;
sanding, grinding, needle
gunning, or blasting with power
tools.
