ELA/ELD Reflection
The ELA/ELD frameworks are designed to ensure that all students gain the knowledge
and skills necessary to succeed. The purpose of these standards is to make sure that graduating
students are preparing for college work course. They also help students to have a better
understanding of what teachers expect from them. These standards are also very helpful for
teachers because they are intent to assist teachers to aid their students. The CA CCSS and
ELA/Literacy are organized into five key themes which include meaning making, language
development, effective expression, content knowledge, and foundational skills.

The classes that have prepared me for teaching English are as follows: ENG 487, 101,
350, 305, and LBS 355. My ENG 487 class prepared me a lot for my future classroom because
this class is an introduction to second language learners. During this class, I had the opportunity
to learn several teaching strategies when working with English Language Learners. My ENG 101
class prepared me how to write essays at college level, the method of research papers, how to use
credible sources, about reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and context. ENG 350
prepared me how to discuss an explanation in multiple paragraphs, how to think critically, have
invention of ideas, and analytical writing. ENG 305 prepared me in the analysis of literature to
develop critical reading skills. LBS 335 prepared me how to use academic language, the
importance of language, how language can be utilized to communicate various ideas.
The areas of ELA/ELD that I feel well prepared and comfortable in teaching are
grammar, vocabulary, and interpreting what is being stated. I believe that all my classes have
prepared me adequately to teach this subject without difficulties. The area of ELA/ELD that I
feel less prepared is in writing. Writing has always been one of my weakness subjects. I have a
hard time putting my ideas together and writing essays that contain a numerous numbers of

paragraphs. In order to help me prepare better for this subject I am planning on taking more
English classes to prepare myself to learn this subject and be able to teach it to my future
students without difficulties.
The artifact that I would include in my portfolio is my English lesson plan. My lesson
plan demonstrates my skills and abilities in this subject. My lesson is an example that I have the
capacity to teach this subject without any difficulties.
