Title: Rhyming at its Finest!

Objective: For students to learn how to differentiate between rhyming words and
not rhyming words.
Standards: 6. Covey meaning through the presentation of musical work.
Grade Level: 1st grade
Step by Step process:
This activity will be like the activity we did in class on Tuesday. Where you read us
the book and we had instruments. This activity will be a review for rhyming. They
would have already learned this prior.
1) First, I will have the students come make a circle around the story telling rug.
2) Then I will pass out unsharpened pencils to every student. Every student will
get 2.
3) I am going to read a book called Llama Llama Red Pajama to the class.
4) Every time they hear rhyming words they are to pat their pencils together.
5) For Ex: There is a line that says: Llama Llama
Red Pajama
6) They will then pat their pencils together to show that Llama and Pajama
rhyme.
7) They will do this throughout the book.
8) Once I finish reading we will review some of the rhyming words that we
heard. If some students patted their pencils together at wrong times I will
keep track and then at the end we will go over why and why not some of
these were rhyming words.
Resources:
I will use the book Llama Llama Red Pajama by: Anna Dewdeny
I will give them each 2 pencils.
Every time they hear a rhyming word they are to pat their pencils together.
