PART A: Describe how students could create and publish an original movie, audio file, podcast, or vodcast in order to achieve
required learning standards. Challenge: For an A provide an idea where the learning activity reaches a LoTi level 4a or

above. To do this you will have to design
a project where students
engage in higher-order
thinking and publish their work to an
audience that will use or care about the results. Broad feedback for their work is also a great way to boost interest and
performance.

e. Describe the impact of westward expansion on Native Americans; include the Battle of the Little Bighorn and the
relocation of Native Americans to reservations.
Brief Description of Learning Experience: What learning standards will be addressed? What will
students and teachers do? How will the project be introduced? How long will it take to complete? What
audience will use/care about the multimedia projects students are creating? How broad is this
audience? How will student work be assessed and by whom? Who will provide feedback to students
about their work?
The teacher will show the students the video they have made (The Wright Brothers). The students will look at the video, and then
talk about the contributions of the Wright Brothers, the impact on current life in America, and why this was an important point at
the turn of the century.
The students will be grouped into groups of 3 or 4 and will be assigned a person, situation, or impact aligned in the above
standard. Students will research their assigned topic. The students will then gather pictures, videos, any other information needed
to create a video, which will help teach the students about their topic. The students should be able to answer these questions at
the end of the presentation:
(1) (If you have a person for your topic), What was the contribution they made to American society?
(2) How has this impacted American life today?
(3) Why was this important at the turn of the century?
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why?
Which indicators of Engaged Learning are strong and why?
Students will be creating and publishing their work for the rest of the class to see. This will allow students to obtain a LoTi Level
of 5.
The content of this lesson will be standard-based and challenging. The student will be the explorer, teacher, and producer. The
learning will be authentic and student-directed. The lesson is collaborative and assessments will be performance-based.
Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could
the project be completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other
types of technology, if any, are going to be used in the learning experience?
While this lesson could be completed without creating a movie, the movie is the engaging hook for students during this lesson.
Creating a movie is a atypical activity, that will get the students excited about the lesson, contrary to a typical written report.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether
in part or whole), include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you borrowed from
others.
