Guided Reading
Think pair share is a done by giving the students a discussion
topic. You give the students time to think about the answer to the
question. After the students are given the chance to form an opinion
you pair them up to discuss the topic. The last step is allowing one
person from each partnership or group to share their thoughts with the
rest of the class. This allows for the best answers to be heard.
This strategy can be used in conjunction with topics that have a
vast array of answers. The goals will be to have students share with
each other so they can form their own opinion or even change their
opinion depending on what they hear from other students. The
students get the chance to broaden their mind. Students enjoy talking
with peers and doing so helps them understand the value of reading
(Fountas and Pinnell 287).

Using base 10 blocks is a great strategy because it always
students to visualize regrouping. It gives the student meaning to
what they are doing. Kids love to know why something is the
way it is or how things are the way they are and with this visual
you are giving that to them. Also, it is hands on and engaging
for the students.
The outcome for using base 10 blocks is outstanding. Its
almost like the students are doing math but dont even know it.
It gives an opportunity for the visual learners.

Venn diagrams are helpful with social studies because they
allow you to go back in time and compare how people lived then
to how we live now. Understanding the differences between the
past and present day is a big part of comprehending history. I
think its helping to read a story in the life of a young boy or girl
about the age of the students in your classroom. After the story
is over it would be a good time to compare and contrast the
differences between the story book character and the students
own lives.

It is appropriate to use ELM with science because there are
some many engaging and hands on activities that can be
incorporated with science. ELM allows the students to be the
teachers. ELM requires that the students hold each other
accountable and that everyone works as a team for a common
goal. With ELM each student is given a specific job and task
within their group. It is their responsibility that they live up the
expectations of their job just as a grown adult would be expected
to in the workplace.

Gifted and talented, special education and ELL

Gifted and talented students often times need that extra motivation.
Sometimes this motivation can come through academic competition.
Just as physical education seeks out competition to motivate athletes
the same motivation can be used for gifted and talented students.
The best strategy for students with special needs is to make sure that
their learning is taking place with visual, auditory and kinesthetic
means. These students need the lessons taught applying to all senses.
Students that are ELL have the advantage of technology. A strategy for
an ELL is to have an iPad that he can use to look things up or even
communicate through a language translation. The ipad can also read
tests or other work.

Family Environment
I have witnessed that twitter can be a great resource to include the
family of the children in what is going on at school. I never would have
expected it by all the teachers use it at my school. They can tweet and
upload photos so that the family of students feels connected to what is
going on.
Families are invited up for Walker Live each month which involves
them in the childrens education
Weekly news letters are sent out to parents via email
Folders are sent home each night with every student. If there were not
any problems that day then the student has a sticker. It something
happened that needed to be addressed then there is a note written
and parents can also write to the teacher at any time.
