Monday 1 June 2015, 9.30am 4.30pm

Squires Building, Room 103
City Campus West

Really glad I came. It has

been really useful and its
good to have a bank of
notes to take with me.
Laura Bishop, BA (Hons) International
Business Management with French

Who is the programme for?

The programme is intended for newly appointed
English language assistants abroad with little or no
experience of teaching. The programme is typically
aimed at current level 5 students preparing for their
year abroad and level 6 students wishing to complete
an assistantship after graduation.

What will you get from the

programme?
The programme adopts a task-based approach to
enable participants to experience some of the reallife tasks performed by English language assistants
abroad. Group size is limited to 18 participants in
order to ensure interactive training.
It aims to:
Develop your classroom management skills
through a range of practical tasks.
Develop your awareness of the language and
cultural needs of your students.
Develop your ability to plan and prepare classes
to support the teaching and learning of all four
language skills (speaking, listening, reading and
writing) with a particular focus on oral and aural
skills.
Develop your competencies in designing and
producing materials using a wide variety of sources
and formats.

How is the programme structured?

The course is designed as a full training day, from 9.30
am to 4.30 pm. Refreshments and lunch are provided
to maximise networking opportunities.
The training course consists in a range of focusspecific workshops. Each workshop is designed to
engage participants in practical tasks relating to
the English assistant role in a wide range of schools
and countries. Workshops include classroom
management, finding and using visuals, text, audio,
video resources to design learning and teaching
materials adapted to your classes and teaching
context. Participants will be provided with a USB stick
including relevant information and materials used
during the training course.

I enjoyed the whole day which has

given me an insight into what I will be
doing shortly. The course exceeded
my expectations greatly.
