The Effect of co2 on Photosynthesis

Introduction: Photosynthesis is the process in which plants turn light energy and CO into
2

chemical energy (glucose and oxygen) for the plant to use for food. They start off by
receiving water, and sunlight and carbon (CO ) from the leaves. Then the chloroplast turns
2

the sunlight into glucose and then enzymes breaks apart water (H 0) and separate
2

hydrogen and oxygen. Then, the plant lets out the oxygen through the stomata, and takes in
the glucose as its food. Then it repeats the cycle all again.

Hypothesis: If it has more baking soda then the process of photosynthesis increases

Procedures: First we will cut out 20 small circles of leaves. Then we will get 2 syringes and
then put the 10 small circles of leaves in each syringe. After that, we fill one syringe with 5
ml of baking soda solution, and the other with soap. Then we will create a vacuum by
pulling on the plunger till the plunger mark the 10 ml mark and then releasing slowly. The
vacuum will take out the oxygen out of the leaves. Then we place each syringes under a
light for 20 minutes and check on it every 2 minutes and record the data of the number of
leaves that rise.
Materials: syringes, baking soda solution, leafs, hole puncher, cups, light.
Conclusion: photosynthesis occurs faster if baking soda is added unlike the syringe with
soap.
