PRE-CONFERENCE
The following is to be filled out by the teacher prior to the observation.
Description of class: Small group class practicing NWF and reading/writing skills
Topic: Nonsense word fluency and oral reading fluency.
Standard(s): Reading: Foundational Skills Standard 3 Know and apply grade-level phonics

and word analysis skills in decoding words.


Purpose (objectives): f.
Read words with inflectional endings.

Recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.

How will students be Pre-Assessed and Post-Assessed: Students will be given a time
limit and then asked to see how many words they can read within that minute. We will
discuss the goal and then try again to see if they were able to reach their goal.

POST OBSERVATION REPORT


Strengths from this session:
Nice work telling the students what you expect from them. I expect an answer
from and then using their names. Because you did this, every one of them
gave you an answer! Setting expectations for students is a key element for
engagement and you demonstrate that beautifully.
You used the perfect combination of positives to correctives. You corrected a
childs writing of bog instead of dog to model the correct spelling. At the
same time, you stayed so positive with your comments and made her feel good
about her contribution on the board.
Your modeling of voice inflection while reading is spot on. That something a lot
of teachers dont think about when they are reading, but modeling it makes a
big difference in their perception of and participation in reading. You did a
wonderful job with that.
Suggestions for future sessions:
My only suggestion is that you post the objective for the students on the

whiteboard at the beginning of class.
